Under second-year head coach Ed Allen, the 2012 Alabama volleyball team finished the season with an 18-14 overall record, while posting a 7-13 mark in Southeastern Conference play. The Crimson Tide finished the season by winning four of its last six matches, which included wins over Kentucky (3-1), in Tuscaloosa, and Missouri (3-2), in Columbia, Mo., to close out the season. 
 
The Tide opened the year by winning 11 of its 12 non-conference matches, which included an 11-match winning streak, the longest streak since the 2005 squad won 13 straight. As part of the 11-match winning streak, Alabama won the tournament title at the Elon Phoenix Classic, posting a 3-0 record against North Carolina Central, Gardner-Webb and Elon.

 The second-ranked Alabama men's golf team shot the lowest round of the day on Saturday in the second round of the 2013 SEC Championship at the par-70, 6,898-yard Seaside Course at the Sea Island Golf Club to pull within three shots of the lead.

The Crimson Tide shot 5-under-par 275 and trail South Carolina by three shots entering Sunday's final round at 2-under 558. The Gamecocks are 5-under 555 and are led by tournament leader Caleb Sturegon, who is 8-under after 36 holes. Auburn, the first-round leader, is third at 4-over 564 with Texas A&M fourth (566) and Georgia fifth (570).

Junior Cory Whitsett has led the Crimson Tide throughout and is tied for second place at 4-under 136, four shots off the lead. Whitsett, from Houston, Texas, shot 3-under 67 on Saturday, making three birdies in the final four holes. He opened with a 1-under 69 on Friday.

With the score tied at 4-4, Alabama had a three-run eighth inning, that included back-to-back RBI doubles by Ben Moore and Austen Smith en route to a 7-4 non-conference win over the Southern Mississippi Golden Eagles on Wednesday night from Pete Taylor Park. With the win, Alabama improves to 25-18 overall, while the Golden Eagles fall to 21-19.

“We competed really hard for nine innings. The key to the game tonight was Jay Shaw and the rest of the bullpen. Shaw was terrific when he came and he was followed by Guilbeau, Haack and Hawley. After the four-spot they gave us, then never really threatened the rest of the game due to the bullpen.”

The Alabama Crimson Tide (25-18, 9-9 SEC) will host Texas A&M (22-20, 7-11 SEC) in a three-game Southeastern Conference series this weekend. The series begins on Friday night, with first pitch scheduled for 6:35 p.m. CST, from Sewell-Thomas Stadium. Game two is slated for 6:05 p.m. CST, on Saturday and the series finale will start at 1:05 p.m. CST, on Sunday.
